Implications

Self-regulated learning has many implications for instructional practice. Teachers can incorporate self-regulated strategies as part of their daily instruction. Following Zimmerman’s Model of Self-Regulation, teachers can provide opportunities for students to practice goal setting and strategic planning, self-control and self-observation, and give students time to self-reflect on this process. Teachers can also provide immediate strategic feedback, teach students various study and learning strategies and allow time to practice these new strategies to enable their students to become self-regulated learners. All students should be required to set performance goals, engage in progress monitoring, and utilize self-reflective processes as part of their daily routine.
