The Self-Regulated Learning (SRL) team accessed the databases in Gleeson Library, setting the criteria of full text, peer-reviewed articles. The key words used included, metacognition, self-regulation, motivation, study strategies, strategic learning, hypermedia, self efficacy, self control, self monitoring.
The initial search yielded over 500 citations. Then each team member identified 25 studies to review with full abstract and text. Out of the 25 the team selected 10-15 for further review.
The eight articles that were selected for review clustered around the concepts of application in basic academic areas or writing and math, use in hypermedia and finally study strategies. The selection was further discriminated by the articles that were written by people who are recognized as leaders in the area of SRL.
